General furniture care and maintenance guidelines

Furniture Care

Furniture Care and Maintenance Rules

Furniture is covered by a 24-month warranty. The warranty period starts from the moment the seller hands over the goods to the buyer.

During the warranty period, quantitative or qualitative discrepancies will be rectified, completed, or replaced with quality items at our expense. Please report any defects noticed during furniture use to www.namuideja.lt contacts: email info@namuideja.lt

The exchange, return, or defect rectification of goods is carried out in accordance with retail trade rules.

The buyer does not have the right to terminate the contract if the defect in the item is minor according to Article 6.363, paragraph 8 of the Civil Code. The product warranty, in accordance with Article 6.338 of the Civil Code, establishes deadlines for claims regarding product defects. The consumer's right to withdraw from a distance contract and a contract concluded off-premises is set out in Article 6.22810 of the Civil Code.

Rules for the Assembly, Care, and Use of Upholstered Furniture

  1. After unpacking the furniture, it is essential to carefully inspect whether all necessary parts are present and what their external condition is. If a defect is noticed, contact customer service immediately. When unpacking and using furniture, do not use sharp objects that could damage the product.
  2. Assemble furniture according to the included instructions.
  3. Do not push furniture, as it can be damaged. Also, do not carry it by holding the upholstery or cushions.
  4. Do not sit on furniture backs or armrests. Heavy loads can damage their construction or deform them.
  5. Do not apply strong point pressure to furniture, as this can tear or unravel leather, fabric, or damage various load-bearing parts of upholstered furniture.
  6. Protect furniture from intense sunlight. This negatively affects fabric, leather, and wood, and can cause fading.
  7. Upholstered furniture should not be placed closer than 1 m to heat sources, near cold uninsulated walls, and in rooms with high humidity.
  8. Do not place hot objects on furniture.
  9. Avoid water, alcohol, thinner, solvent, and other various chemical substances coming into contact with the furniture surface.
  10. If a stain appears on the upholstery, it should be removed immediately with a soft, absorbent cloth; if necessary, use appropriate cleaning products.
  11. Furniture is delivered by car, so there is no need to worry about uneven wrinkles and folds that may appear during transport. Properly arranged furniture will regain its shape at room temperature.
  12. Protect furniture from poorly dyed clothing (especially jeans) and covers that can cause indelible stains on the upholstery.
  13. Place furniture on a flat, horizontal surface to avoid warping and deformation of the furniture structure.
  14. Operate transformation mechanisms correctly. Do not pull the lift mechanism on only one side – always pull from the center.
  15. Protect natural and artificial leather furniture from sweat. Sweat damages the surface, so clean it periodically.
  16. Furniture should be cleaned, vacuumed, and aired regularly. Accumulated moisture can cause mold and deform wooden furniture structures.
  17. Cushions and other furniture parts (backs, armrest cushions) filled with padding will compress and lose their shape over time. Therefore, they need to be fluffed and reshaped regularly.
  18. Optimal ambient temperature: +18 – +25°C, relative air humidity 45% – 60%.
  19. Clamps, screws, or bolts are used to connect furniture. If they loosen, gaps or other defects may appear. Connecting parts should be tightened again from time to time.
  20. To avoid unwanted friction and wear of parts, lubricate the moving parts of all transformation mechanisms with household lubricant.
  21. Furniture must be placed on a flat surface. Place the furniture 5-10 cm from the wall to avoid abrasions or indentations.
  22. If gaps or misalignments appear due to uneven floors when installing furniture, adjust the height of the legs, or if this is not possible, place a spacer of appropriate thickness under the legs.
  23. It is recommended to glue felt under furniture legs to prevent scratching the floor.
  24. Before using the furniture's folding function for the first time, ensure that all transport protective elements have been removed.
  25. Differences arising from uneven use of the furniture are not considered a defect. We recommend regularly changing your sitting position and not always sitting in the same favorite spot.
  26. Natural effects of use include wrinkling of the cover, slight sagging of the seating area, stretching and looseness of fabric, artificial or natural leather, fraying at seams, and shine on leather. In seating areas, slight folds may form in the fabric during use – this is a result of stretching and is not a material defect.
  27. Upholstered living room furniture is intended for sitting and resting, but not for continuous use, like bedroom furniture. The transformation mechanisms used are not designed for permanent comfortable sleeping.
  28. For upholstered furniture with a sleeping function, use a mattress topper or a thicker pad.
  29. The pattern of striped or checkered fabric on furniture may not always be perfectly aligned due to the manufacturing technology.
  30. Chenille, plush, and other napped fabrics are characterized by a "flattening" effect, where due to body weight, heat, moisture, and other circumstances, the direction of the fabric pile may change, which creates the appearance of "spots" due to light reflection. This is a typical product characteristic and does not indicate a deterioration in fabric quality.
  31. In the production of natural leather furniture, leather substitute is used in some areas, the shade of which may differ from leather, as leather and eco-leather are two different structural materials.
  32. Compared to the sample, the firmness of the furniture may vary.
  33. The service life of constantly used furniture is inevitably shorter, and the soft parts and transformation mechanism wear out faster.
  34. The shade of leather, artificial leather, and tapestry from each new batch may differ compared to the sample in the store.
  35. Artificial leather changes over time, becoming less elastic and cracking as the polymer ages.
  36. If there are small children at home, supervise them to handle toys, sharp objects, pencils carefully, and not to jump on the furniture.
  37. Furniture of the same model, upholstered with different types of tapestry or leather, may look different compared to exhibition furniture, may have wrinkles, may differ in firmness, etc., which is inevitable due to the individual properties of the materials used.
  38. Upholstered furniture is made using soft materials and cannot be measured precisely. Slight deviations in furniture dimensions, uneven seams, uneven cushions, etc., are inevitable and characteristic of upholstered furniture.
  39. Leather, artificial leather, tapestry, and wood have their specific odor.

Upholstered Furniture Cleaning

  1. For cleaning furniture upholstery, it is mandatory to use only cleaning services from corresponding registered companies or to use certified products sold for the care of specific furniture upholstery, strictly adhering to their usage rules and the furniture manufacturer's recommendations.
  2. To remove dry dirt, gently brush the furniture with a dry cloth or a soft-bristled brush.
  3. Clean furniture with circular motions, without pressing too hard. Strong rubbing can damage the surface of both leather and artificial leather upholstery, damage the pile of tapestry, and spread the stain.
  4. If the furniture is wet, do not dry it with a hairdryer; instead, use paper towels or a dry white cloth.
  5. Always clean entire furniture elements - from seam to seam, to fully clean, e.g., seating area, armrests.
  6. For leather furniture, for routine cleaning, use a non-colored cotton cloth dampened with room temperature water. A couple of times a year, leather furniture should be treated with a special product designed for leather furniture to prevent the leather from drying out and cracking. Under no circumstances should solvents, acetone, alcohol, soap, or washing powders be used to clean leather. Use a cleaning cream designed for leather. Leather requires very careful maintenance. Do not wash leather furniture upholstery.
  7. For artificial leather furniture, use a clean cloth for cleaning.
  8. For tapestry furniture, use a vacuum cleaner and a soft-bristled brush for routine cleaning. Stains are cleaned strictly following tapestry cleaning recommendations. Do not use an iron.

Rules for the Assembly, Care, and Use of Case Furniture

MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), wood, veneer, laminated chipboard furniture care and maintenance

  1. Do not place hot and wet objects directly on the furniture;
  2. Polish only after carefully reading the composition description of the products used. Excessive silicone and distilled petroleum content can damage the surface finish;
  3. It is recommended that furniture be kept in rooms with a temperature of not less than +15 to +25 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 45% to 70%.
  4. Furniture must be placed in ventilated rooms. It should not be placed against damp walls and heating devices.
  5. Furniture must be protected from moisture. If water gets on it, immediately wipe it with a dry piece of cloth. If furniture parts remain in contact with water (or other liquids) for a longer time, the panel may deform or the edges may peel off.
  6. Furniture must be protected from mechanical damage; do not use sharp objects for cleaning furniture. It must be protected from chemicals.
  7. Always clean with a dry, soft cloth or special cleaning cloths. When cleaning, do not press or rub in one place.
  8. If dirt is difficult to remove, you must use special cleaners.
  9. Furniture must be used for its intended purpose so that the furniture structure is not damaged.
  10. Laminated chipboard furniture is negatively affected by direct contact with water. The most important attention when caring for furniture made of laminated chipboard (LMDP) must be paid to the edges of the board, as water that can get through them can "swell" the board itself. If water or other liquid spills, it just needs to be wiped off quickly. Water left for longer can penetrate through the edges of the board into the interior and deform the surface of the board.
  11. Laminated chipboard is flammable, so it must be protected from direct fire. Do not place furniture too close to a fireplace, air conditioner ventilation opening, as the material may deform or the furniture finish may be damaged.
  12. Natural wear and tear of the product or changes in its properties are not considered a quality defect. Unevenness in natural wood textures, laminated chipboard, and edging are not considered a product quality defect.
  13. Do not place televisions, flower pots, or other heavy objects on areas not designed for them.
  14. Do not put items weighing more than 5 kilograms in a drawer or on a shelf.
  15. Mechanisms should be lubricated once every six months.
  16. Clean dirt immediately. It is better to clean using absorbent material rather than rubbing. Water left uncleaned for a long time will leave white stains on the furniture. Alcohol, perfumes, aftershave, and medications can severely damage the finish.
  17. Do not cut directly on the countertop. Use a cutting board.
  18. Do not place hot pans, hot pots, irons, or other high-temperature items on the countertop without a thermal insulation pad. Use hot pot holders.
  19. Do not place plastic or rubber items (lamp bases, notebooks, rubber mats, etc.), as some plastics contain ingredients that can damage the finish.
  20. When placing drinks, houseplants, etc., on wooden furniture, always use dedicated fabric coasters or saucers, as liquid on the furniture surface will cause stains, and over time, the wood finish may detach.
  21. Direct sunlight negatively affects wooden furniture surfaces – wood fades and cracks. For these reasons, wooden furniture should be placed away from windows, air conditioners, and heaters, which also damage the wood's moisture balance.

Care and Maintenance of Glass, Ceramic Tables, Coffee Tables, Metal, Glass, Ceramic Elements

  1. Dust is removed from glass furniture elements with a soft dry cloth. Clean only with cleaners from reputable manufacturers, following the instructions provided on the packaging. Do not spray glass cleaners on other surfaces or frosted glass. Rotate frosted glass items with the frosted side down. Be careful not to get grease or other dirt on the frosted glass surface – hard-to-remove stains may remain.
  2. Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners on metal surfaces. Immediately polish damaged surfaces to protect the underlying metal layers from corrosion. Clean chrome or stainless steel surfaces only with specially adapted cleaning products. Long-term storage of metal-finish furniture in a damp environment can cause corrosion.
  3. The matte (rough) side of the glass surface is coated with a special lacquer, so clean the lacquered side of the glass surface only with plain warm +35-40 C water. If the matte (rough), lacquered side of the glass surface is stained in one spot, it is necessary to clean the entire glass surface. Always clean only with a cotton cloth or special glass cleaning cloths. The lacquered glass surface must not come into contact with other objects to avoid damage/scratches to the lacquer surface. Do not clean frosted glass with glass cleaner. Be careful not to get grease on it, as hard-to-remove stains may remain.
  4. Clay fiber is a dyed open-structure material. Always clean only with a dry cotton cloth. Leaving clay tables or other elements damp and not performing proper maintenance can damage the top layer – fading or stains may appear. Be careful not to get grease on it, and if it does, wipe it off immediately to avoid permanent damage if dirt is not left for long.

Chair Care and Maintenance

  1. Use chairs for their intended purpose. Do not jump or climb on chairs, do not use them for stepping;
  2. Protect chairs from liquids (juices, coffee, fats, wine, water, etc.), chemical substances (acids, alkalis, paints, solvents, etc.). If spilled, clean immediately. When moving chairs, do not push them, but carry them. If you have scratch-sensitive floors, it is advisable to use protective pads on the chair legs.
  3. Hard chair castors are designed for soft (carpet) flooring, while rubber-coated castors are for hard (parquet, laminate, tile) flooring.
  1. It is recommended to clean chair component surfaces with a dry, soft cloth (flannel, plush, velvet) and to use only cleaning products specifically designed for them. It is recommended to clean each chair component immediately after it gets dirty.
  2. Do not clean painted metal surfaces chemically. It is advised to use cleaning products specifically designed for painted metal surfaces or household cleaning products that do not contain abrasive particles or bleaching properties (e.g., washing powder);
  3. Take special care to ensure that aggressive liquids (acids, alkalis, paints, solvents, etc.) do not come into contact with the chairs. These compounds are chemically active and can damage the cleaned surface and be hazardous to your health.
  4. Plastic furniture and trim cleaning instructions: These surfaces must be cleaned with a damp cloth. The surface must be wiped dry. Do not clean with abrasive cloths or cleaners containing abrasive particles. Do not use wood polish or buffing agents.

Mattress care and operation

  1. Unless otherwise specified in the packaging, the mattress must not be folded in half during transport, as its structural parts may delaminate or crack.
  2. If a "new product smell" is present after unpacking the mattress, please leave it in a ventilated room. The smell will dissipate in a short time.
  3. The product smell is not a manufacturing defect, and in such cases, the manufacturer is not obligated to replace the mattress.
  4. Under light exposure, foam changes color (yellows), but does not lose its physical properties. Color change is not considered a product defect, and in such cases, the manufacturer is not obligated to replace the mattress; the mattress must be protected from direct sunlight and moisture.
  5. During the operation of the mattress, it is recommended to periodically (once a month) rotate it by 180 degrees (swap the head and foot) and flip it over, so that the mattress is evenly loaded and its comfort is not compromised.
  6. The mattress cover fabric should be cared for as indicated on the care label.
  7. The mattress cover is easy to remove. Occasionally wash or dry clean it. It is advisable to wash it in water at 30°C - 40°C. Wring gently to prevent shrinkage. Do not tumble dry. The cover may shrink slightly, but its dimensions will return to normal after a short time once placed back on the mattress.
  8. If the mattress cover is non-removable, use an additional cover that you can remove and wash;
  9. It is forbidden to overload the mattress with heavy objects or to jump on it.
  10. Mattresses are designed for lying, not sitting. Sitting in one place (e.g., watching TV, reading, etc.) damages the mattress.
  11. If the product has been wetted or soaked, or if hygiene requirements are not met (viscoelastic material absorbs liquids and is difficult to dry), its elasticity and functionality are reduced, and the springs of spring mattresses may rust and deform.
  12. The optimal sleeping temperature is 15-18°C, and recommended air humidity is ~60%.
  13. Considering hygiene requirements, it is recommended to replace mattresses after 7 years.
  14. The warranty applies to physical defects and changes if the deformation exceeds 10% of the current product height.
  15. Due to the exceptional elasticity of the core materials, a permissible deviation of +/-2% in mattress dimensions may occur. Such a deviation is not considered a mattress defect.
  16. A partial increase in mattress softness of up to 15% is also not considered a defect.
  17. At least two people should turn the mattress.
  18. Jumping on spring mattresses is forbidden – it can damage the spring system and ruin the entire mattress core.
  19. Latex mattresses are recommended for use in beds with slatted bases – they require good ventilation, especially during the warm season.

Bed and slat base care and operation

  1. Do not stand or step on individual bed parts (e.g., sides, footboard, etc.).
  2. Do not climb into the bed linen box.
  3. Do not put hands into the lifting mechanism;
  4. Children must not use the lifting mechanism unsupervised.
  5. It is essential to prevent the lifting mechanism from falling down.
  6. When choosing a bed with a lifting mechanism, it is essential to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for mattress weights. An overly heavy mattress may hinder the proper use of the lifting mechanism.
  7. Bed slats, in the most loaded areas (buttocks and shoulder zones), should be softer to allow optimal body adaptation.
  8. Use only high-quality sprung slats, with at least 2 slats per length of the base. The gaps between the bed base slats must not exceed 4 cm.
  9. The surface of the slats must be smooth to avoid damaging the mattress cover. To protect the mattress from friction, if the bed base is sharp, an air and moisture-permeable underlay should be used, placed between the bed slats and the mattress.
  10. Considering hygiene requirements, it is recommended to replace slat bases after 10 years.

Use and maintenance of bunk beds and high beds

  1. High beds and the upper bed of bunk beds are not suitable for children under six years of age.
  2. High beds and bunk beds must be placed on a level floor.
  3. Bunk beds or high beds must be assembled according to the requirements specified in the assembly instructions.
  4. All fastening elements should always be properly tightened during operation. It is necessary to periodically check that the assembly joints are properly tightened.
  5. Bunk beds or high beds must not be used if the joints are loose, or if any of their structural parts are broken or missing.
  6. The top of the mattress must be at least 160 mm below the top edge of the safety barriers, or the maximum mattress thickness must not exceed the mark indicated on the bed. The distance between the bed and the wall must be less than 75 mm or greater than 230 mm to prevent serious injury to a child trapped between the bed and the wall.

Outdoor furniture use and maintenance

  1. Wooden outdoor furniture requires additional protection. Although these furniture items are made of moisture-resistant materials, we recommend storing outdoor furniture under cover to maintain their appearance for as long as possible.
  2. If outdoor furniture gets wet from rain or water, lift the cushions, and dry the wooden and soft parts. If constantly exposed to moisture or if moisture lingers, the furniture may mold or change color, even if it has been treated with an impregnant.
  3. Maintain outdoor furniture by wiping dust off with a damp cloth, using mild soap (if necessary), and then drying them.
  4. During the cold season, it is advisable to bring the furniture indoors. It is important that the room is well-ventilated. Also, never cover outdoor furniture with polyethylene or similar materials that would trap air and prevent the furniture from airing out.
  5. Annually, before the warm season begins, we recommend renewing the wooden part of outdoor furniture with protective wood oils, stains, or varnishes, depending on what the wood was treated with during manufacturing.
  6. Metal parts must also be cleaned with special metal cleaners, and any rust should be scoured off. Then, coat the metal surface with special protective agents that will reduce the impact of sunlight, heat, and moisture. Use silicone spray at fastening points.
  7. Regularly check the furniture for rust or peeling paint, especially in hard-to-see areas. Even stainless steel can start to rust from moisture, especially if the paint surface is damaged.
  8. At least once a season, check the tightness of the structure. Wood reacts to weather changes, expanding or contracting, so during dry periods, wood screws or bolts may loosen, and the structure may become wobbly.
  9. Please note that natural wood, which reacts to environmental conditions, is used for the furniture, so even if recommendations are followed, its appearance may change over time.
  10. Outdoor furniture is recommended to be covered with special covers that you can purchase in our store. The lifespan of uncovered furniture is shortened, as environmental factors affect the structure, materials, and color over time, so it is recommended to cover outdoor furniture with covers. When covering tabletops, we advise leaving an air gap so that the cover does not cling tightly to the tabletop. Under no circumstances should soft parts be left outdoors during winter. They must be brought indoors or stored outdoors in special bags or boxes. By choosing covers for outdoor furniture, you will protect them not only from atmospheric effects, but it is also an aesthetic matter, as the furniture will always be clean once the cover is removed.

Buyer's obligations and rights for warranty service

  1. If hidden product defects are noticed during the warranty period (24 months), please take photos of them and immediately send us the photographs by email to info@namuideja.lt. In such a case, the product manufacturer will determine whether the product defect is covered by the warranty, i.e., whether the product defect is a manufacturing defect. We will immediately inform you of the manufacturer's decision using the contact details you provided. When collecting or receiving furniture, it is necessary to check its completeness and inspect it for packaging damage or other defects.
  2. The Buyer undertakes to provide conditions for the Seller's representatives and/or persons designated by the Seller to inspect and evaluate the quality of the Goods at their location. If necessary, to transfer the furniture (or part thereof) for repair to the central office, and if possible, to allow minor repair work to be performed at the buyer's home.
  3. Before delivering or handing over goods for warranty service, repair, or restoration – clean them, vacuum the gaps between parts, clean mattress covers. Do not leave pet hair residue. Hand over the item clean and tidy. The manufacturer reserves the right not to accept the Goods if they may pose an unsanitary or allergic threat.
  4. If the buyer refuses or does not provide the opportunity to give the furniture or part thereof for repair, the buyer confirms this in writing to the seller's representatives, otherwise, the buyer's claim is considered unfounded.
  5. If unfounded claims are submitted, the buyer undertakes to cover the travel expenses of the seller's representatives.
  6. When purchasing furniture or other goods from the exhibition, the buyer undertakes to inspect the purchased goods before the contract, and if defects are noticed, to make claims regarding the defects before signing the contract. If the buyer does not make claims regarding product defects during the inspection before signing the contract, it is assumed that there were no defects or that the defects were discussed.
  7. In cases where the buyer purchases goods whose price has been reduced due to manufacturing or other defects (also applies to incomplete furniture), the buyer has no right to make claims to the seller regarding defects that were present at the time of sale and for which the price was reduced.

Seller's warranty obligations and rights

  1. To determine the method and location of warranty repair.
  2. During the warranty period, the seller rectifies or replaces detected product quality defects (faults) at their own expense within a specified period unless otherwise agreed with the client:
  • upholstered and cabinet furniture manufactured in Lithuania - within 30 days
  • upholstered and cabinet furniture manufactured in other countries - within 30 days (this period may be extended up to 45 days if the manufacturer or carrier reports production or transportation obstacles affecting the furniture repair).
  1. While warranty repairs are being performed, the seller does not provide replacement furniture.
  2. In cases of disputes related to the evaluation of product defects or the causes of their occurrence, the parties may demand an independent expertise. The costs of this expertise are covered by the party against whom the decision is made.

The warranty is void if:

  • Documents confirming the purchase of the product are not provided;
  • Defects and damages are visible at the time of purchase;
  • There is fabric wrinkling, creasing, occurring due to the product's technology;
  • There is a furniture dimension error of 5 cm compared to catalog dimensions;
  • There are differences in upholstery shades and structure compared to the sample;
  • Upholstery is damaged, stained, dyed by clothing, dyes, inappropriate cleaning products;
  • There are damages caused by the buyer's fault, i.e., resulting from improper transportation, relocation, or pushing of furniture (scratches, tears, abrasions, punctures, etc.);
  • There are damages or defects caused by animals;
  • Furniture was altered without the seller's knowledge;
  • There are defects and damages for which the selling price of the furniture was reduced;
  • There are damages resulting from non-compliance with maintenance and operation rules;
  • Natural stretching of the fabric, becoming looser, and natural wrinkle formation occurs during use;
  • The buyer installs damaged furniture elements themselves, without informing the seller;
  • There are changes in the softness, firmness, color, and shape of pillows, supports, armrests, and seating areas that occurred due to improper use of the furniture, but not due to construction or material defects.
  • There are external and other defects when purchasing furniture from the exposition.
  • There is natural wear and tear resulting from intensive use.

After the warranty period or if defects and faults arise due to the Buyer's fault, furniture repair is carried out by separate agreement between the parties.

ATTENTION!

Warranty obligations are void if operating conditions have been violated, physical or mechanical damage has occurred, or defects have arisen due to external causes (chemical exposure, fire, etc.).

The return or exchange of goods is regulated by the Civil Code and Retail Trade Rules. Pursuant to the provisions of item 25 of the Retail Trade Rules, goods sold to the consumer under consumer purchase-sale distance contracts or contracts concluded outside of business premises shall be returned in accordance with the procedure established in Articles 6.22810 and 6.22811 of the Civil Code.
